I agree, Colin, and this is why I appreciated this thread so much.

I knew narrator was out there, but fortunately, never had the need to use
it.

Now, I'm prepared if the need arises.

narator should begin to speak in the ease of access center...it is supposed
to by default anyway...but hey, hit tab twice and you've got it everytime
anyway.
Narator has gotten me out of lots of jams when jaws stops speaking, or when
setting up a new computer that doesn't have jaws...installing jfw from a
thumb drive or the internet is great, but if you don't have speech to get it
started it's pretty difficult.
