the 570 is a very good radio.  Those old radios are very touchy.
If you are not mis-tuning the finals, and backing off the drive, something 
else must be really wrong.
Hopefully it is simple to fix.
The other thing is the output in the 570 is much cleaner than the ft-102. 
That rig was known for its TVI.
