Are you saying you set your carrier level at 10 or so?
That seems rather low to me.
I set mine around 30, which in RTTY mode, gives me a reading of 13 or 14 on
the ALC.
Perhaps I'm misinterpreting what you are saying here, so feel free to
correct the errors of my thinking.

Now that I think of it, I try to keep it somewhere around 10, which =
diminishes the size of the ballpark. I also listen to the monitor to = make
sure the background noise level isn't too high. That's more of an = issue
with an MC80, which picks up lots of room noise.
