Speakers for Celiac Support Group include
• bone health
• keeping mentally healthy while coping with a GF diet
• dieticians/ Nutritionist
• Pharmacists
• Chiropractors
• Doctors who specialize in diagnosing CD or vitamins or nutrients.
• Internist/cardiologist (local...who has celiac)
• Some labs will send a speaker
• "gluten free ethnic foods
• speakers from local farms about buying local
• produce manager talk about fresh fruits and vegetables in season (Whole Foods/Trader Joes) to speak to us about the importance of fresh foods in nutrition
• safeway and giant talk about their GF food
• cooking demo ( I don’t think this would work for us)
• local restaurant outing
• presentations on things like label reading, nutritional deficiencies
• Tasting of things like pizza, breakfast cereals, crackers, chocolate chip cookies....
• Discuss the newest trends, research, etc.
• speakers speaking about their articles or their books
• Chefs/-eating out safely
• local GF bakers
• people who sell products, either weight loss
• speakers from our favorite food manufacturers - smaller companies like Namaste, New Planet Beer
• members cooking and baking demos ( I don’t think this would work for us)
• Restaurant owners talking about gluten free menus and how they prepare.
• Skype and phone interviews
• Talk about cross contamination in the home.
• If you someone who does something related to a healthy gluten free lifestyle, get their card
• representatives from any of the national celiac groups
• local counselors who are familiar with the GF diet
• Celiac research centers will send someone if you make a donation to the center
• speak about the resources to find information for how to live a healthier gluten free lifestyle, or encourage them to find 'non-food' related things to do. Think back to what you enjoyed doing before you were diagnosed, most can still be done, with a little planning or watchfulness to food.
• Physical Therapist (discussed the need for exercise in the elderly)
• Neurosurgeon (discuss strokes)
• Chef from local hospital
• alternative flours, etc.
