Another radio worth considering is the Kenwood 570, it is fairly accessible
with the addition of the voice module. This radio is all modes and covers
from below the A M broadcast band up through 54 MHz continuously. I haven't
looked lately but you could probably find the 570 for $500 to $600, however,
this is just a wild guess.
