Keep in mind that what Linda is referring to will not work for HF.

For that, I think your best bet would be some sort of a low-profile wire
dipole, although I'm sure others will have additional ideas.

I am helpless about knowledge of radio equipment. We live in an apartment
with a little patio and I don't think the neighbors like to see two rabbit
ears about 20 inches long pointing to Southeast and southwest. What you
described sound exactly  what I need.  I tell my husband to look further.
