definitely leave it in the on mode. Thanks, Jim WA6EKS

Ok thanks Steve. I have a menu file on the 480 in my BrailleNote
which I am using to write you. Will check it out now to see what
it says about menu 002. Thanks, Jim WA6EKS

Jim,
The menu list in the manual is a bit terse, but if you get the
list
from icanworkthisthing.com
there is a bit more description for each item.
I may have mentioned this to you before, but i know a number of
people
with the 590 (and I suppose the 480 as well) who had trouble
getting
the recording function to work, did better doing it via the ARCP
software.

Alan, I guess the SAC is the 100 watt model right? If so, that's
the one I have. I've had it for about 4 years and love it. Am
still learning features about it because the menu descriptions
are pretty terse and don't always provide clear information
about
what function will actually be changed by implementing a given
menu. I still haven't figured out how to make the thing record
30 second audio clips or record voice or CW ID's using the
speech
guide chip. But it's a terrific rig. Jim WA6EKS

Jim, I'd be interested in the answer to your question as well.
Which model of the 480 do you have? I bought my 480SAT from a
friend for
$400 who had bought it a year or so ago, and other than hooking
it up one
time, had never used it. I bought it specifically for use on
six meters
only. I drive my Commander legal limit amp, so the HX model
wouldn't have
done me any good. I am quite pleased with the radio, though I
have never
tried it on HF, and under heavy QRM. What is your opinion of
the
rig?

Hi Jim,
That did the trick! I guess I assumed that auto mode meant it
would
automatically switch mode depending on the frequency. I'll have
to
read the manual section and find out exactly what auto mode does
automatically.
Thanks and 73,

Dave, looks like you've turned on auto mode, menu 23. It'll
likely clear up
if you turn that off. It's discussed in the manual, page 51.

Subject: TS-590 Default Mode
When I first received my TS-590, I think it defaulted to CW mode
when
I entered a frequency in the CW portion of a band. Now it seems
to
default SSB mode when I key in a frequency regardless of where I
am
going to in the band. I've been through the menus and can't
seem
to
find a relevant setting. Do any of you who have owned the
TS-590
for
a while have any idea what I might have changed? I'm assuming
something did change and it isn't just my failing memory! I'm
about
98% CW, so it is a minor annoyance to have to change mode
whenever I
key in a CW frequency.
