Subject: Failed tubes
Hi all:
My friend who sold me the AL-811H picked it up to see if he could fix the
20M reduced power issue.
He hooked up the amp to his transceiver, can't get no power out of the amp,
tested the tubes and apparently all the tubes have failed.
I asked him if he checked the SWR between the rig and amp and he said he did
but there was no SWR. Puzzling on this one.
Just yesterday, I tried 20M, got my problem but switched to 40M and my amp
tuned up as normal with the numbers I've been posting.
My 43 foot vertical is now being blamed and I don't know if this is even
possible.
I tune the antenna with an MFJ-986 which brings the antenna flat and run my
amp through it.
My buddy is telling me that the currents at the base of my vertical has come
back through everything and blew the tubes. If I don't stop, I'll blow the
crap out of my 102 as well.
Now the tuner I'm using is his borrowed tuner while mine is on his antenna
system, a wire, with no problems tuning, which had problems tuning my
vertical. I was getting 6/1 SWR spikes on 75M, while 40/10M was perfect.
I even ran the amp with my own tuner during the international DX contest and
everything was perfect.
I'm very discouraged and am not sure what or who to believe. >frown<
