You could always put up a vertical on the patio unless it is covered. 

Or a 5/8 wave mag mount sitting on a piece of metal on the patio would probably work better than in the house.

What bands are you interested in working?

Pretty hard to do HF in your sort of environment.

    Hi Linda,
I am helpless about knowledge of radio equipment. We live in an apartment 
with a little patio and I don't think the neighbors like to see two rabbit 
ears about 20 inches long pointing to Southeast and southwest. What you 
described sound exactly  what I need.  I tell my husband to look further.
