For many years I used a amp with 4 811a tubes and the way I worked it was to
ttune for max output with lower drive and then after getting max output I
increased the drive until no more increase in output and then just backing
off the drive slightly and never burned out a tube. That H B amp has been
taken over by the spiders in my garage years ago.

Subject: Re: Plate dipping with a TW-1

Hi;
The problem with the t w 1 is that it only reads forward and
reflected power. It doesn't give you meter information such as
plate current or grid drive. Other than Tom's 811 h issue, I
have tuned several amps basically for maximum output and there
were no complaints about the signal and no issues with the
amplifier. Just couldn't go back to a tube amplifier and manual
tuner. It was fun back when but changing bands could be more
work than it was worth. richard
