Phil, I did try the reader on my rig's display, and I got it to read a fair
amount of it once, but it was largely gibberish. The stuff on the display
is a lot of abbreviations and is spacially significant, like reading a
diagram. It really wasn't useful.

A non ham friend runs a couple of fending stands. He has the I5S iPhone and
just bought the KNFB reader. He said it is the best thing he's ever
purchased because it works on things at work, boxes, cases of candy bars,
and anything paper, of course, and it is well worth the 99 dollars. I'm
wondering if it will take shots of the front panel of a lighted display on a
rig and read it back.
