When you plug the usb cable into the Winkeyer, you should  hear the 
Windows sound indicating  a device  has activated, and a "R" in cw from 
the Winkeyer.


I assume you have the Winkeyer connected to the 590 via the 1/8 key jack 
and have VOX turned on.
