Albert,

It is a brand of computer to radio interfaces to do digital modes.    I 
think this company has several different models  with varying degrees of 
features and complexity, and varying prices to match.

You wouldn't ever need one with your 590, since it has it's own sound 
chip and data vox to do all the stuff an additional interface will do.
