Howard, that's zzactly what I tried to do at two radio shack 
stores having bought many such cord there over the years.  Jim

Jim,

You could buy any cord that has the required quarter inch stereo 
plug on one
end and anything on the other and then you could cut that 
connector off and
strip the cable to have the bare end you need.

I am trying to find a simple stereo patch cord  with a quarter
 inch male plug and either stripped end or stereo 1/8 male on the
 other end.  Went to two Radio Shacks today and neither one had
 them and they couldn't find one at other local stores.  I find
 that unbelievable.  Guess I'll root around in my junk box and 
see
 if I can find something.  All I am trying to do is hook my keyer
