Below is a response from Tom (W8JI) regarding my tripping relay issue.

I don't fully understand all of the technical details here, or how best to
address them, but would be interested in any thoughts anyone has.

Thanks, Mike, for posting my quiry, and sending this response to me.

Here's tom W8JI's reply regarding your tripping relay.
Hope you can get something out of it.

Mike,

In the text question below, I am not familiar with the TS590 menu settings.

That aside, I am assuming he has a GOP board installed. If so, the GOP will
trip on peaks over 193 mA.

Something is causing peak current to exceed 193 mA, or he could have a bad
meter protection diode causing the grid meter to be wrong.

He does have that board installed??

Why not use a tone oscillator that lets you hear the grid current? It would
be pretty easy to use the ALC jack for that output if you have an external
oscillator. The grid meter is 0.3 volts full scale at 200 mA.
