I would still contact Ameritron regarding the external QSK for the 811H. 
There's anything mentioning a bios reset or adjustment but perhaps they could help you with that. 
I don't know how much vision you have but perhaps you have a local ham buddy how can help you with that. 
I wouldn't be detered though, I'd still look at that QSK option. 
John: I have to agree. You can usually tell when someone is running an amp or no with the loud relay. 
The only time you don't really is when someone is running I very expensive solidstate model.
