I took my Boafeng UV5R to Dayton last year and didn't notice any intermod.

I suppose for the price you could try it but personally, give me a
commercial one any day if I'm going to use one. I'll take a decent used
commercial HT any day over the ham ones and I'm sure the chinese ones are no
good in areas with a lot of intermod. Maybe I'll take my wife's to a ham
fest someday, she has a baofeng, and see how bad that is with thousands of
radios around but I know a lot of ham gear is not all that great with all
that noise and I can't see the chinese ones being any better.
