Mike,
I had sent this earlier:
Re: Tuner question
Mike,
I thought all those BR's ment it was cold up there.
I know this has been gone over a few times recently, but I don't think
you want to "oil" anything. The shaft that the little roller wheel
rides back
and forth on probably has some conductive grease on it. You don't want
to transfer any of this grease to the contact part of the roller wheel,
or to
the silver plated coil winding.
As I mentioned earlier, my Palstar recommends a cleaning of the coil
winding and roller with 70% isopropyl alcohol twice a year. I probably
do mine once
a year. Your milage may vary. Do what MFJ says, using the stuff MFJ
says to use, and hopefully all will be well.
I'm not aware of these things being "sealed", but the list of things I
don't know or understand gets longer evry day.
73, have fun in the contest. If you hear me, stop and say hi.

Hi all:

Just gotta question about the roller inductor
assemblies in manual tuners.
As periodic maintenance, do you have to
clean and re_oil
certain components?
I feel lately I'm getting handed BS as it
relates to my MFJ-986.
A couple of locals, including a friend of
mine who helps
me from time to time, tells me that you don't have to clean and re_oil
the roller inductor or other components because they are sealed.
So
what am
I to take from that is, throw my tuner away because MFJ and I concur
that the roller inductor maybe pitted and the contact wheel isn't making
a full proper
contact and that's why I'm getting that blasted 75M issue. LOL
I
can get the part from MFJ for 63.50USD plus shipping and exchange and I
think that
would be considerably cheaper then sending my tuner to Toronto Ontario
for repairs.
After the contest this weekend, I'm gonna have to just
open that
sucker up and get my XYL to look at things
while I rotate the roller to see if there's any skipping. Is there
anything else I should look for?

73:
Mike VO1AX
<a href=
