Well, I'm far from  an expert, but mine has worked well for 2 1/2 years. 
  Read the readme file on the cd that comes with the unit.  Be sure to 
install the driver software before connecting the unit to the pc and 
note the number of the virtual comm port that is  installed.

To program the memory buttons so you can use it stand alone, plug a 
paddle into the rear of the unit and follow the instructions on the cd.

I only use mine with logging software (Writelog and XMlog), which both 
recognize it and take control of the keyer.
