National Weather Service
Tallahassee, Florida

Impacts:

Snow/sleet - accumulations up to an inch possible
. Freezing rain - up to a quarter of an inch possible
. Travel problems Tuesday night through Wednesday
. Elevated surfaces/bridges will be most prone to freezing
. Even small accumulations of snow/ice can create significant travel impacts
for the Deep South

Wintry" precipitation possible Tuesday & Wednesday

Event:

Type - Chance of light rain, snow, freezing rain, and/or sleet

Timing -Tuesday & Wednesday

A strong arctic cold front will move through the region
Monday night. The combination of cold air and light
precipitation may lead to periods of non-liquid precipitation,
including rain, freezing rain, sleet, and/or snow. The first
chance (slight) will be in Southeast Alabama and South
Georgia Tuesday morning. A more significant chance is
Tuesday night and Wednesday. However, there is still a
possibility that there will be no precipitation by the time it
becomes cold enough for snow.

Confidence:

Confidence is fairly high that very cold air will arrive Monday night and
Tuesday, and that there will be at least some light
precipitation in the area. Confidence is rather low in the timing of the
cold air being collocated with the precipitation,
which is the critical part of this forecast. Early in the event, when the
precipitation may be heaviest, there will likely be
warm layers at different levels- resulting in different types of
precipitation (ranging from rain, to freezing rain and/or
sleet). Snow is more likely later in the event, though the precipitation may
taper off by that time.

Historical Record:

Last official measurable snowfall: Tallahassee/Panama City- Dec. 22-23, 1989

 Dothan/Albany- Feb. 12, 2010
