The D-104 is actually an excellent communications mic because of its rising 
characteristic.  But, unknown to many, it has a decent low end as well but 
only if its properly matched.  It likes to look into about 10 megohms  or so 
and there are various circuits out there to accomplish this.  A google 
search should yield some or I'll look for the one I use here.  73,  lou
