I have had an ALS600 for about a year, but it was mostly a backup amp.
During the year that I had it, it got very little use. About a month ago, I
discovered that it had lost all output. Until it went south, it would put
out about 550 watts. It turned out that I had blown the finals, which was
somewhat surprising to me as it was feeding an antenna that had a SWR of
less than 1.1 to 1. The repair bill came to about $400 not including
shipping.

Since I knew that the amp had never been abused, I decided that I didn't
want it around anymore so I sold it for $700. My experience with it leads
me to believe that it was too finicky, not suitable for even a backup.

If you have any further questions, just drop me a private email. My email
address is good on qrz.com

Subject: Ameritron ALS-600 amplifier

I believe some of you guys are using or have used the ALS-600 amplifier and
I would appreciate any info you could give me on it. I have heard that it
shuts down with the slightest SWR, is this correct? Also, about what how
much power does it put out. I will appreciate any info good or bad as I
may be interested in one. Also price estimate new and used if you know.
Can the top section set on top of the power supply and is it very blind
user friendly? Thanks much for any info.
