Use 70% isopropyl alcohol, from any drug store, to clean winding and the
part of the contact wheel that rides on the winding. Your sighted
helper should see a load of black junk transfer to your cleaning
cloth. Keep at it, changing the area of the cloth as needed until it
doesn't pick up any more blak. At this point the winding itself should
be bright and shiny.
If the design is similar to the Palstar I have, the contact wheel rides
back and forth along a shaft. This shaft is coated with conductive
grease. If you clean the existing grease off the shaft, you will have
to recoat with some sort of conductive grease. Sorry I don't know
what to use here.
Don't get any of the existing grease(or new grease) on the winding, or
the contact part of the wheel.
