I have an Icom 7000.  You can read the frequency and type a frequency and do 
many other things from the Microphone.  The radio has speech built in if you 
get help to turn it on.  The speech will tell you Frequency, S. meter 
reading, and mode.  If you memorize the menus you can do a lot with that 
Radio because when cycling through the menus the first one usually has a 
longer beep.  Gerry
