I am not sure whether or not Baofeng builds a radio 
specifically intended for 1.25 meters.

However, I have the following information from a person who 
I consider to be a good and reliable information source.

Apparently there is at least one company selling a Baofeng 
UV5 which they claim to have modified to work on 222 MHZ, 
but which in fact does not.

This person and a friend of his each bought one. When the 
radio would not access a repeater about a mile away, and 
could barely hear that repeater, one of these individuals 
put this radio on a service monitor in order to see what was 
happening, or in this case, not happening.

He found that in the 1.25 meter band, the receiver had a 
sensitivity that came in somewhere around 5 microvolts. Yes, 
that is 5, not point 5.

A check of the transmitter then revealed an output of around 
10 milliwatts in the high power position.

The second radio tested almost identically awful.

Both individuals called the company, and eventually received 
a full refund of their money.

So, if you encounter an advertisement for a tri-band 
Baofeng, be very careful, and ask lots of questions if you 
think you absolutely must have one.

Seems that I recall some discussion awhile back about one of 
the Baofeng models
having 1.25 meters on it.  Anhyone recall which one that is?
