Perhaps you could tell him, also, how much more independent this acquisition 
will make you.  This independence will increase your feelings of self 
confidence.  These feelings of self confidence and independence as a blind 
person will reflect themselves in your general attitude of happiness and 
pleasure.  Which will make you a pleasanter person with whom to deal.  As 
the days and years proceed.  Thereby making the purchase of an I-Phone a 
worthwhile investment in the future for you both  benefiting  you both.  As 
you can use the blindness specific applications to assist him as well.  An 
example being the GPS application.
