Now I do hesitate to add to these slanderous stories about beaurocrats, having
occassionally found myself in the role I call,"preservation beurocrat", but I
must share a motor vehicle story.

We move from PA to the normally much nicer than this story would indicate,
state of Minnesota. My sixteen year old had taken drivers ed in PA,
cooperatively stopped nagging us about driving, perhaps really understanding
that it didn't make sense before we made the move, and finally the day
arrives. She has memorized the MN drivers manual. She's got all her paper
work. The let her take the written test...she passes. But! A travesty! A
Horror! She is scolded for having taken the test under false pretences! She
has not a BLUE card! Julie is quickly reduced to tears. Daddy!!!!! Okay,
I'll take on the old biddy...I whisper...but first let's make sure she gives
me MY liscense! Okay so we go back...what the hell is a blue card? The blue
card is proof that you have had 30 hours of classroom training. But she has
proof of 30 hours of classroom training....yes, but its white, not blue.

Yep. That really was the explaination.

A younger...newer...probably soon to be fired beaurocrat came to our aide.
Explained that the blue card comes when one arranges for on the road lessons,
which let to a talk with the manager...who agreed that a more indepth
explaination had been called for.

We did get some assistance and the whole thing was resolved in a couple of
days. But I am convinced that if I'd simply copied the white card onto a blue
card we could have gotton by.
