I try not to schedule meetings before 9. First of all, it gives me an
opportunity to see what might be ready to burst into flames on my desk...or it
might give me a moment to prepare for the meeting. I've ended many meetings
with a statement to the effect, now we can all go back to earning a living.
But I think I also do it because I know that the people I'm meeting with may
have work to get started, employees to supervise, conditions to assess. You
can reach me before 9...but you will be competing with other urgent contacts.

or

There are times when things are quiet. There's a good cup of coffee,
comraderie and maybe a telephone call from an old friend who wants to discuss
a preservation problem that isn't mine. It happens.
