I went to two different state schools for the blind when
I was young and there were a few really nice girls at those
schools. I was weird enough, however, that I never had to worry
about getting in to any kind of trouble along those lines. I was
interested in amateur radio and electronics and related stuff
way back in the mid sixties making me a nerd way before it was
cool.

When I went to public school my last two years of high
school, there were a lot more girls and I was still a nerd but
there was simply a much larger range of possibilities.

I went through college and was almost 31 before I
finally met the girl who is still my wife today.

There had been a minor fire in the basement of the
building where both of us worked. We were all told to come back
after lunch but when I got there, we were told to go home for
the rest of the day due to no electrical power in the building.

I was going back toward home and heard some
girlish-sounding footsteps headed towards the building I had
just left so I said, "They are turning everybody around back
there."

It turned out she not only worked in the same building I
did but lived in the same apartment house and the rest shall we
say is history.

If I had ever known that fires were a good way to score
chicks, I would probably have turned in to a real sicko.

Fortunately for all, I didn't go that route and met a
fine lady anyway.

She knew from the beginning that I was in to ham radio,
computers and tinkering and she is okay with that.

I have heard people who study the field of relationships
say that you don't necessarily need someone who is interested in
the same things you are but you need somebody who shares your
values and has a similar sense of humor and you certainly need a
since of humor to keep from going stark raving mad at least 3
times a day.
