if you recall, a long time ago, I built a 4 switch breakout box for the
function buttons?
A small project box, four momentary toggle switches and some other little
bits and pieces, plus the 47K, and 100K resisters to tell the radio what to
do.
I also wired in an XLR cable and wired one of the switches on the box for
PTT.
oh, and put a pigtail on for an external PTT switch...currently a straight
key on a big steel plate under the desk.
If I had a slightly bigger project box, I could have put an xLR female and
eighth inch jack on for the mic and ptt switch.
Of course, a 1 to 1 audio isolation transformer inside would also be a good
thing to minimize any RFI that gets onto the XLR cable etc.
I would also like a 48V power supply in the box to use condenser style mics.
Anyway, I built that before MFJ came out with their bass mics with the
function buttons.
I'm kind of surprised W2IHY hasn't implemented function buttons on one of
his boxes since the 4 kenwood mike function buttons are controled by
switching either 47K or 100K resisters to ground through the Up or down pins
on the mike jack.
Sure would make a handy option for the kenwood operators who buy his stuff.
