Hi Dave,

I can't comment on your particular gear, but would suggest you get a PC of some kind with screen reading software to drive your rig.

I'm fortunate to have a legacy Braille display so I can use that in real-time operation without synthetic speech competing with what's happening on air.

Many of the Kenwood rigs can be adapted for speech, though the scope of this varies from rig to rig.

There are many broadband or self tuning amplifiers out there and I suppose you'll get as many opinions as people who reply to your message.

For what it's worth ...

I use a K3, controlled by the PC, using N1MM Logger, though there are many, possibly more suitable programs for your needs. There's a program called K3 Texter and another called K3 Voice, which give access to many of the features, but I don't see how these can be used in conjunction with the logging software, which needs the RS232 port.

I also have a K3 Reader, which again requires the RS232 port, so can't as yet operate alongside the computer, though this may become possible at some stage.

On HF, I use an ACOM 2000A self tuning amplifier. It needs setting up, but that operation is accessible and once done, you shouldn't need to repeat it whilst you have the same antennas in use.

I use a P2000CW audible power/VSWR meter, these seem to be like Gold dust these days, but you may find a second hand one about somewhere. The TW1 is another alternative, also discontinued. I hear noises that a new audible meter is in process, but we're waiting for that.

On 50 and our 70 MHz band, I use an HA1YA duo band amplifier, which I tune with the aid of the P2000CW on 50 and a TW2 on 70. Again, once set up for a particular band, you don't need to retune unless you swap antennas about.

Well, there's a start, happy to discuss further, though I know I haven't addressed many of your specific questions.

Cheers & 73,

Terry, GM3WUX
