I recently bought a Lenovo IdeaPad P-500 running Windows 8. The mouse pad or touch pad or "Lenovo pointing device" is powered by Synaptics.

Because of the way I hold my hands when typing, such active pads give me fits, jumping the cursor all around and sometimes even inadvertently editing my text. I much prefer a standard mouse and have a wireless one running via a USB port. On my former laptop, an Acer, when I'd turn off the touch pad it stayed off. On the Lenovo it seems to constantly turn itself back on, certainly with every new boot and even when it comes out of sleep mode.

As a precaution, I downloaded drivers then deleted the installed driver files via Device Manager. Imagine my surprise when after the reboot called for by the uninstall procedure the touch pad was still "alive"!

Any tips on how to put this pad to sleep for good? I want to do this in a manner where I can bring it back to life later, either if I change my mind or pass this computer on to somebody else.
