I had an off-center fed windom up and it was around 162 feet in
length I think. It ran over two apartment buildings and we had
to turn a right angle because we ran out of room in one
direction. It worked pretty darn good and I think had better SWR
on most bands then my current DXCC dipole which is only 82 feet
long. Still haven't ironed out the kinks with that yet but
should do alright. Can't really complain though, as I worked
Helsinki Finland on 20 meters with 100 watts last week. a lot
due to the conditions. I have also worked the blind hams net on
14.258 KHZ for several weeks using the same DXCC antenna. Jim

Subject: Re: Windom 6 thru 80 meter antenna
Fred,
It is basically the same length as a full size 80 meter dipole,
just
that the feedpoint is off center. Depending on what brand you
go with,
it will be somewhere around 133 - 136 feet long and feedpoint
will be
around 2/3 from one end. Baluns will also vary: some use 4:1 and
others
use 6:1.
I had one up a few years ago and it worked quite well. It works
harmonically on bands above the lowest band (80 meters), so no
tuner
needed on 40, 20, 10, and even on 12 and 17 meters. It's not
resonant
on 30 and 15 meters although you can use a tuner and make it
work.
There is also a mod to add a parallel dipole to make it resonant
on 30
and 15.
Mine was set up in a slanting configuration, with one end
hanging down
from the highest point. I think it can work in a few different
configurations, but maybe the flat top or inverted vee are the
most common.
Good luck, Steve KW3A

Are any of you guys running the 6 thru 80 meter windom antenna?
If so, I
would appreciate some info on this antenna. How long are the
legs and best
height for average use? Any good or bad things that you have to
say about
the antenna. I recently heard a guy talking on a windom and he
had a very
good signal barefooted and this got me interested. First, I
have to know
the length so I can find if I have the space. I will appreciate
any info
good or bad. Thanks much,
