Kenneth,
I believe that the new Kenwood programming cable for the THF6a is a usb
cable. I bought my THF6a a long time ago and I have the old serial port
cable and I have to use a serial to usb converter.

Subject: A question about programming cables
Hello to the list.
I am concerned about a particular problem or potential problem that could
develop.
I am in the very early stages of doing research on radio transievers the thf
6a and other radios hand held or mobile that require programming cables.
Also I am researching different new windows 8 computers and or used windows
7 systems to replace the current computer I have now.
My concern is that new computers do not have com ports lpt1 lpt2.
I have heard that a lot of the radio programming cables are not usb and so
one needs to get a
usb to comport adapter.
I have also heard that in windows 7 and or win 8 these converters do not
work with some programs or just don't work at all for what ever reason.
Some of you who deal with this I need your input on how to solve this
problem.
I have also heard that you can buy optional cards to put in new computers
with comport plugs on the card.
I need all the input I can so I know what to do about this problem.
It really does concern me and I want to know what I am doing before I do
anything.
Kenneth Son.
