list in case anyone also has the same problem.


After doing a lot of searching on Microsoft.com and on Google, I learned 
that I had to find the Contacts icon on the bottom left corner of the 
Windows Live screen, but I could not find that icon no matter how long or 
hard I looked.  This morning I finally called GW Micro and quickly learned 
that Control-3 brings up the contact window.  I was immediately able to find 
the import button and I thought that the problem was solved, but!

I have over 300 addresses in my xp outlook express address book.  When I 
export data using the recommended CSV format, I get only 34 contact 
addresses transfered.  I've done this several times with the same results. 
Any ideas anyone?

Bob,  Hopefully, this will help some.

Here is how to import messages from Outlook Express into Windows Live Mail.

Main items in this description begin on new lines.

In Outlook Express, open the tools menu with alt t.

Open the options dialog by typing o.

Shift tab once.

Press end.  You are now in the maintenance property sheet.

Tab until you get to an item that says store folder.  Press enter.

A dialog will open.  Tab until you hear a sentence that says roughly the 
following:
Your ffiles are stored in the following location.  You will then hear part 
of the path.

Press home, hold the shift key and then press end.
Copy the selected text to the clipboard.

Press escape until you are back in the main Outlook Express Window. 
Probably pressing it twice will place you there. Close Outlook Express.

Open the run dialog, paste the path from the clipboard and press enter.

You are now in the folder where the e-mail files are stored.  Back space 
once and copy the folder name of the folder you are now in to
the clipboard.

Now, copy that folder wherever you wish.  In other words, you may copy it to 
an external drive if you wish or a cd or a thunb drive, etc.  You have now 
copied the folder containing all the information Windows Live
Mail needs to import all of your message folders.

On the other computer, open Windows Live Mail.  .

Open the application menu with alt f.

Down arrow to import messages. Press enter.

You are in a dialog.  Up and down arrow to find the program you want to 
import messages from, Then press enter.

You will be informed, after a pause, that the location of messages could not 
be determined.

Tab to the browse button and press the space bar.

Tab until you get to the tree view.

Use it to find the location of the messages, the place where you copied the 
folder.

Once you find it, right arrow to open the folder where the files are 
located.

Then tab to the ok button and Press the space bar.

You will be returned to the previous dialog telling you that the location 
could not be found.  That's nothing to worry about.  It's the old dialog and 
you haven't yet looked for the messages again but now the program knows 
where to look.

Tab to the ok button and press the space bar.

The messages should be found.  I don't recall all the details, since I have 
no messages to import on my computer.  As you go through the dialog, you 
will be able to select the folders you want to import.  Select all of the 
ones you want to import.
  If you want to import everything.  My recollection is that these are check 
boxes in a list that you check and unchedck with the space bar as you up and 
down arrow through the list.

Importing the address book requires a longer description of both exporting 
the address book from Outlook Express and importing it into Windows Live 
Mail.
Basically, export your addresses as a csv file from Outlook Express.

Open Windows Live Mail.  Go to the Contacts manager.  You can get there by 
issuing
the command control 3.

Now issue the command alt h.

Start tabbing. After a lot of tabs, you will get to an import menu.  Press 
the space bar to open it, it's a split button.

Find the format of the address book you want to import and press enter. 
Follow the dialogs from there.
