Tom,

I don't know about your car radio.  On my receiver, there is a button you 
press to switch to HD1 or HD2 and some of the stations in Detroit a third 
channel.

Near Grand Rapids, you should be able to get HD.  I know for sure that 
WOOD-FM has smooth jazz on their second channel, as I've occasionally gotten 
it from Lansing.
