Another possibility, if you have a computer connected and can enter commands
to the rig is to use the RM command to read the meter. It'll give you 3
readings, SWR, COMP, and ALC.
The command you enter is "RM;" (without the quotes and the semicolon is
required.)
The response looks something like:
RM10001;RM20000;RM3028;
or something like that for SWR, COMP, and ALC.

Tim:
If there is a way to do both with one button. I haven't found it.
Maybe, someone else on the list has figured it out.
I have another question on this subject.
Is there a way to persuade the 590 to read the output power more precisely
than to the next highest 25 watts?
Thanks, all.

Gale & Steve,
Thanks guys. Got it working.
Just for confirmation, I gather it isn't possible to have swr, power output
and alc read with the same pf key? I assume one would have to either set up
2 keys, or change the values in the menu to switch between power out and
swr/alc. Is this correct?
Many thanks,
Tim.

Tim:
I had the same problem at first.
1. Menu 80 should show 201.
2. Apply a steady CW carrier.
3. Press meter key. (You should hear Power reading, I.E. P100.)
Now:
1. Set menu 80 to 202.
2. Apply a steady CW carrier.
3. Press meter key. (You should hear one of two readings.)
1. "R1.0" or whatever the SWR may be.
2. "A10" or whatever the A L C reading may be.
3. If R or A is not what you want, press the key next to the meter key to
change it.
I hope this helps.

Subject: TS590 question.
Hi all,
I've recently acquired a ts590, and not having fully read the user manual
yet, was wondering could someone provide some instructions in getting the
VGS1 to announce power, swr etc.
When I press the meter button while applying a carrier nothing is spoken.
Thanks in advance.
