Hi, well, it was at least two years ago, maybe almost three when
I tried working with the VX7 software and both WE and JAWS,
neither of which worked. I sorry but I can't remember the
specifics of suffice it to say that it pretty much was
non-responsive. By it by mean the HAM software just didn't work
with either screen reader well. I brought it to the attention of
both GW Micro and RT Systems because my primary Screen Reader is
WindowEyes, and neither company could figure out a solution.
That was and is very disappointing when you hope things are
progressing to a general state of more accessibility and suddenly
find a huge road block. RT Systems just wrote back to me as I
indicated in an earlier email that NVDA works with there software
but I have no experience with that Screen Reader. 73, Jim WA6EKS

Hello Jim.
When you installed that software for the vx 7 could you get
Window-eyes to
read any part of the screen?
Did any of the menus read or how did the screen look or did any
information
come up on the screen that you could read.
Why I am asking is if any of the rt system program can be read by
window
eyes I may could get someone to help me set some mouse hotkeys
with the
window eyes mouse click script or just try to right down where to
move the
mouse to click on a certain area of the screen to get it to some
how work.
We as blind hams are in a world of hurt if we can't get access to
this
programming software and it does concern me.
I guess I could try the nvda program to access some of those
screens if I
have too.
Have a good one.

Subject: Re: A question about programming software rt systems
Hi, I have successfully used an early version of RT Systems
software to program my Yaesu Vx5r HT. It's the only way I can
program that rig. A friend bought a VX7 a few years back and I
installed his RT Systems software and found it Totally unusable
with both Jaws and WindowEyes. I just replied to RT Systems
yesterday after receiving an ad from them about their new
software that can program many of the new HT's complaining about
it's inaccessibility or incompatibility with screen readers.
They wrote back and claim that it works with NVDA. I have no
experience with that screen reader. When I pointed out to both
GW Micro and RT systems a few years ago that the ham software
did
not work, each company looked at it and from what I remember,
blamed each other for the issues which meant that nothing
productive happened to fix the issue. Having said that, I
still
use and love my old RT Systems software which is why when I had
the chance, I bought another used VX5r. That's my 2.5 cents.

Subject: A question about programming software rt systems
Hello to the list.
Another question about programming software.
This question is for the hams who use screen reading software
just as I do.
How accessible are these programs from rt systems to Window
Eyes,
Jaws and
nvda?
Someone had mentioned that the menus and some of the programs
functions were
not all that usable but I wonder if there is a work around.
If anyone has experience on how this software can be used and
possible work
arounds to get it to work please let me know.
I would be interested in any experiences screen reader users
have
had with
these rt systems programs.
I am looking at the Kenwood and Icom options in buying a new
radio but I am
interested in hearing about all the rt systems programming
software.
