hey, with the cost of small tents being what they are these days, and the 
way they fold and store them, you could have your own tent if you want 
hahahaha.
A 2 man tent with front covered entrance, and that folds into a package 
about 10 by 3 inches including poles will set you back 30 bucks on sale.

Another really good item to have in that box if not a tent, would be a tarp. 
4 by 6, 6 by 8 and 8 by 10 tarps can be had really really cheap these days 
as well...and they are usually decent enough quality.
I picked up a few different tarps last year for literally a couple bucks a 
piece.  That and 100 feet of thin nylon rope can never be a bad thing.
Again, these tarps come packaged in very small thin packages, and 100 feet 
of thin nylon rope is very small as well.
The tarp would be much more useful than a garbage bag style rain slicker I 
think.
If you want to get really creative, get a bag of tent pegs as well so you 
can anchor down the tarp over and around the crate for both rain protection, 
and UV protection in the field.
