Yes, John.  That is often a problem.  I suggested the adaptor in case there 
is a problem with soldering or getting soldering done.

I don't recommend running an adapter to adapt a 1/4 inch plug to a 1/8 inch
jack, I've seen the weight of a connector like that ruin the adapter and/or
the jack in the past.
