Depends on what you want to listen to Matt.  Welcome to the list.
Sounds like a short wave receiver, with most but not all of the short wave 
broadcast bands.
If you want to listen to hams, and to learn the code, you will need a radio 
that can receive single sideband audio, and detect the code.
I don't know how short wave is in the UK, but many of the countries are 
taking their broadcast services off the air.
That seems to leave the bands for Jesus Christ Evangelism radio, or right 
wing survivalist fishiest radio.

It might be different over there.
