Hi and thanks Ron. Sounds like an interesting list. I have been
listening to Public Service radio stuff much longer than I've
been a ham. Still do it even though it has become much more
challenging what with agencies going trunked and then digital
trunked on top of that. I'll try to subscribe, but I am reading
your email on my Apex which does strange things when reading
braille. I'll check out your email on the PC and see if I can
subscribe using it. Best 73, Jim

Subject: Re: FreeScann software and handheld scanners?

Hi Jim and everyone,
I don't have immediate info about the software but will ask some
VI friends
who do use it.

Regarding interest in scanner receivers, you may be surprised at
how many
hams are also comms monitors (or perhaps you won't be so
surprised). if you
are interested, there is a list which has been recently started
specifically
as a place for scanner hobbyists who are blind to gather and swap
ideas,
info, etc. It is the "Monitoring Blind" list and you can send a
blank email
to:

to subscribe.

I hope to see you there.

Subject: FreeScann software and handheld scanners?

Hi list, I am wondering if anyone uses the software called
FreeScan to work
with the newer trunking scanners like the PSR or Uniden scanners.
If so,
how accessible is the software with screen readers? Also, does
anyone have
experience with the Uniden
396 handheld scanner? I have the PSR 500 handheld which works
fine but am
interested in the capabilities of the Uniden scanner as well. If
you want,
write me off list because it probably doesn't interest everyone
here, even
though it is dealing with radios. Jim WA6EKS
