hey butch:
go to menu 11, which is rx ctcss and just type in 0 and hit menu to 
confirm...the rx tone will then be disabled.
If you have already programmed the weather frequency into a memory channel, 
you'll have to reprogram it without the tone as you cannot edit that 
particular parameter in a memory channel.
Don't forget to delete the memory channel first if you want to use the same 
channel location.
Don't worry, someone was having precisely the same problem the other day on 
the uv5R email list.
I just leave rx ctcss off for everything as there are some quirky issues 
with using the rx tone on the uv5R.
