Coleen,
How did you manage to adopt children being a blind parent? My foster mother
tried to adopt but was denied because she was blind. On the other hand, my
adoptive mother was a single parent at the time who got away with adopting 7
children from another country, 3 including myself had disabilities. Someone
must have pulled some strings on her end.

That's the most important thing anyway. Children will bond to whomever
treats them like parents should whether they are biological or adopted. The
important thing is to be honest with them about it right off. I'm sorry
your children didn't have the mental capacity to understand about adoption,
but the important thing is that they loved you and you loved them just as
you did your biological child.
