I have a 160 meter shortened sloper that I hope to get on the tower
soon. It is 75 feet long, and has a loading coil near the feedpoint.
The Alpha Delta twin sloper that I mentioned in my earlier post plays
very well. I ran one as my only 40/80/160 antenna for several years.
That antenna, like the one that I have ready to go on my tower now, is
a compromise on 160, but like Tom says, the real estate considerations
come into play.
The Alpha Delta antenna is a full size quarter wave on 40 and 80,
which means it works well, and that it also has a somewhat broad band
width on those bands.
In my earlier description, I failed to mention that the far end of the
antenna is anchored just high enough above ground to be out of reach
of children, pets, and the non-suspecting head that may wander through
the yard.
