you'll love it when it shows up.
I will suggest a few accessories though that you can ask for with the
package.
Ask for the 3600MA larger battery...25 bucks or less
ask for an antenna like the J0125A female SMA...4 bucks and many many users
have said it performs better than the stock duck that comes with the radio.
Ask for a speaker mike if you like those sorts of things...only about 10 to
15 bucks, but they are kenwood compatible, so if you already have a kenwood
speaker mike your good to go.
Also, if you want to hook your uv5R up to any existing HT antennas, or
mobile antennas or whatever, you'll need the adapters to go from the Male
SMA on the radio to your likely more common male SMA HT antennas or an so239
for typical mobile or bass antenna connections.
There is also a battery eliminator that terminates in a cigarette lighter
plug for about 12 bucks on ebay which can be nice because there is no
charging jack on the radio to hook up an external power source.
this one slides on just like the regular battery and has a regulator built
in.
don't bother with a programming cable because none of the software out there
is accessible with JFW or win eyes yet.
however, the programming cable is compatible with both kenwood and wouxun
radios, as are the speaker mikes.
Buddy's documents are fantastic and are the first thing that is recommended
to new users by the guys on the UV5R yahoo list.
I've shared it with my local group, 10 of us, who just got the UV5R's and
everyone finds it very helpful.
