In addition to all you have heard already, RT Systems makes a programming
cable that has a USB conector on it. I think I paid $19.95 for it a year
ago.

Subject: AW: TM-V71A question

Hi Albert,

I am using a USB to serial adapter to connect my TMV71 to my computer. In
other words, the adapter is plugged into one of the USB ports on my laptop
and the data cable for the TMV71 in turn is connected with the adapter and
the rig respectively. There is no need to install a separate serial port.
It is important, however, to make sure that you select the right comport for
the USB to serial adapter in the Kenwood programming software. Prior to
doing that, make sure to install any drivers that come with the adapter and
then connect the adapter itself. Once the device has been recognized by
windows, you should find the comport number that's being used in your
system's device manager. I hope, this helps.

Christoph, DF9WM
