Preservation Trades Network
is pleased to announce
the 2nd
INTERNATIONAL PRESERVATION TRADES WORKSHOP
November 10-12, 1998
Gaithersburg, Maryland
Preservation Trades Network will host the 1998 International
Preservation Trades Workshop at the Montgomery County Agricultural
Center in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The Gaithersburg location will provide
attendees with easy access to the Washington, DC Metro subway system,
offering the opportunity for cooperative activities in the DC area, as
well as ample lodging and nearby camping facilities.
The cost is $250.00 (PTN Member) or $300.00 (Non Member) for
Registrations received prior to July 1, 1998.; $300.00 (PTN Member) or
$350.00 (Non Member) for Registrations received between July 1 and
September 10, 1998 and $325.00 (PTN Member) or $375.00 (Non Member)
after September 10, 1998.
At this year's three-day workshop 40-plus skilled demonstrators will
focus on topics, such as:
- brick conservation - stone conservation - timber framing
- use of historic tools - concrete repairs - log
repairs
- epoxy repair techniques - historic roofing methods - blacksmithing
and hardware
- project documentation - historic millwork - lime
mortar preparation and application
- window glass - sheet metal skills - architectural fragment
collections
- wood identification - wood preservation - and much
more…
This Event will bring together the diverse community of tradespeople in
an educational and organizational forum. Attendees will have the
opportunity to learn from one another via demonstration, round table
discussion, formal and informal meetings and general sessions. A
separate Commercial Space will also be available for product specific
information and demonstration.
Goals of the International Preservation Trades Workshop include:
organizing the preservation trades community, identifying preservation
trade leaders and educators; establishing common links with various
existing groups; developing a preservation code of practice;
establishing a means to recognize outstanding accomplishment in the
preservation trades field; and encouraging the dissemination of more
trade-related and material-related preservation trade information.
