The outbacker type setup, be the tripod home made or their over priced one,
would be perfect for you then.I've used my home made one at vacation spots
and what not many times and it performs amazingly well, I've often been
impressed with my Carolina bugcatcher on the home made tripod especially
when the bands are open even a little. In fact when I lived with my now
in-laws, they weren't then, I used to go to a start park set it up out of
the way, or a couple friend's houses not too far from there, and get on the
air for a little while, fold it up and put it away. It wasn't common because
I was looking at apartments a lot but I did that a couple times and it
worked well.
