    Colin:

Ok, let me clarify, based on what I now know.

As I think back on things now, I did test the G5RV independent of all coax
connections on Saturday, and got the short across the PL259, which is what
prompted this whole discussion to begin with.

This is why I'm now coming to the conclusion that maybe the entire problem
was caused by things up on the roof of the RV, with metal roofing, railings,
and such.

Now that the G5RV is independent of everything, I no longer get the short.

This week-end, I will check all feed line connections again first, and then
try to put up the antenna.

I will also do the checks of the antenna that Howard suggested in an earlier
post.

I'm sorry if I confused issues, but I think things are really clarifying
themselves now.

Time will tell if I'm right or wrong, and I will share what I find with
everyone.

One thing I can say for sure is that I am learning a great deal about the
G5RV, feed line systems, what to assume and what not to assume, etc..
